Why are we here?

“He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”
‭‭Micah‬ ‭6‬:‭8‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Why are we here?

The Human Mandate

a rhyming reason
by C C Keaton

“He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”
‭‭Micah‬ ‭6‬:‭8‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Humans have but one mandate
It’s found in Micah 6 verse 8
Directed in three distinct parts
The first deals with actions and the next, our hearts
The last of the three, is about positioning,
And all, must be, harmoniously
Played out, in tandem, from the start

Our very first priority
Is to “do justice” towards every living thing
What exactly does that mean?
It means, and this is key
That we do only good towards all others, holding them in higher esteem
Bless every living being!

And in return for hurts, blame or pain
Give back healing, kindness or help in any way
For if we return pain for pain
We will never get love as gain
All we’ll get is more of the same!
How many lives will we loose
From all the wrongs we selfishly choose
In order to feed greed or vanity?

The second part of our proposed fate
Is to love mercy, and thus abate
All this senseless, disturbing hate
Going ‘round and ‘round
Ever increasing at alarming rate
Yet we can’t deny love’s incredible weight!

For each and every morning we wake
God gives us fresh, new mercy
So we need not hesitate
To extend that mercy to every living creature, small or great
We don’t have to relate
Or win them over in debate
Merciful love is patient, it waits
Thus forgiving even the worst of offensive traits
To offer for other’s reprobates
The glaring, beauty of grace

The final piece of our earthly decree
Is to follow after God in open, honest humility
For if we continue to believe
The great lie that all us “we”
Evolved from single cells in the sea
Then we’ve really no responsibility

But, if in faith, we whole heartedly
Put God and the good of all others as our priority
Then we will fulfill all three of these
Appointed goals towards life’s flourishing
Completing the most beautiful of all mysteries
To once again walk daily in the Garden with our Heavenly King!
Just like in Genesis, human’s true beginning

But, if perhaps you need a bit more clarity
God says those who seek to find Him will see
It’s the only way to truly be free!
So, let’s act justly
Love others with great mercy
Speaking and acting humbly
Then all of Heaven and Earth will sing
At the death of evil, fear, pain and suffering
And thus God’s Good Kingdom bring!

So, in summation of my case
Since we all belong to the human race,
No matter color, ethnicity, gender or societal place
We should truly long to replace
Anything bad with good’s embrace

Then our collective purpose, love’s mandate
Will play out like music
A cosmic symphony takes place
And in this most sacred space
Every wrong will be erased
And we’ll finally be face to face
With God forever to co-create
And all are invited as Heaven awaits!

Shalom! You are loved, so make your love great!

“God blesses those who are humble, for they will inherit the whole earth. God blesses those who hunger and thirst for justice, for they will be satisfied. God blesses those who are merciful, for they will be shown mercy. God blesses those whose hearts are pure, for they will see God.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭5‬:‭5‬-‭8‬ ‭NLT
