Why do children still play in war torn cities?

“You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of your presence and the pleasures of living with you forever.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭16‬:‭11‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Out Of The Gray

Rhyming Out Loud!
a video poem by C C Keaton

Why do children still play in war torn cities?
Don’t young, new widows laugh with their babies?
If we smile through tears does that make us crazy?
Or perhaps it’s something more like bravery?

To be in various states of suffering yet still be
Laughing, singing, dancing, even grinning, playfully
Happiness is a choice
And joy can live alongside pain simultaneously

To elevate above the most horrible of events triumphantly
If we choose to believe, have hope and pray fervently
God lifts us up, comforts, heals; breathing new life most savory
And invites us into a sacred recovery

A mysterious, overflowing joy moves into our harsh reality
Transcending rationality
Saving us through all life’s vagaries
So no matter what horror we might be facing
Joy can take it, break it, change the entire atmosphere surrounding

And even though the circumstances pending
Seem to be never ending
Joy is brighter, stronger, higher, and lasts longer than any drudgery

So let’s choose joy today
For it’s the surest way
To climb out of the gray
Into a shining new ray
Of hope on full display
Because Jesus’ love saves!

And knowing how He gave
His life so we’re no longer enslaved
But now have new life and eternity someday
That should cause rejoicing, come what may

So let’s choose to fight against pain, hurt, loss, and the grave
Because God chose to endure the greatest of pains
For the joy of Heaven with us forever, saved in every way!

Shalom! You are loved, so choose the power of joy today!
