What does freedom mean to you?
For me, Freedom is not just the ability to do whatever I want to do, especially since we humans are fickle and often make poor choices. I have found, in my 59 years of walking this Earth, with more than half of those years walking hand in hand with my husband Michael and following Jesus, that Freedom looks less like always doing what I want and more like being “free from” the things that enslave. These things that keep us from truly experiencing freedom are subtle lies that promise satisfaction but produce a harvest of personal slavery.
When we value our personal freedom above what’s best for others we’ll find ourselves very lonely. Isolation is desolation for the soul and our souls desire to be free.
So, I suppose, for me, the best meaning of freedom comes from my own relinquishing of what I might desire to be free to do if it’s not best for others. Doing this makes all my relationships healthier, stronger, more loving AND free! After all, Jesus suffered and gave His life, defeating death and hell, to purchase the freedom of every soul, of His own volition (free will). Now, all in Christ are completely and entirely free forever!
I even made a short video about what freedom means to me a while back, posted below.
Shalom! You have been created by love, for love, to love and be loved forever and free!
