“Dedicated to my daughter, Mikaela, who loves all things Tim Burton; somehow the music and thought processes behind this creation sparked that relation.” – C C Keaton
Responsible Creatures
a video poem
by C C Keaton
Want to know a frightening truth?
We’re responsible for what we choose!
No matter what gets thrown at you
We still decide either to continue abuse
Or stop hateful reproofs
Reverse thoughts of misuse
Replace what’s bad with good
What’s the reason we rebel
Or fall for charming spells
Curse with angry yells
Destroy like cancer cells
In essence, choose hell
Every word from our mouths either gives life or kills
Will we lie our way through or truth tell
Why is God so hidden
Why was fruit of knowledge of evil forbidden
Oh, God, come! We scream when sin ridden
Do we think his holy purity would leave us stricken
Want to know a real tragedy, then listen
What we’ve been told is a condition
Is nothing more than a lie keeping us in prison
For we’re all living examples of
An oxymoron God calls love
Where we are created from above
Yet made responsible for everything that, to us, comes
We can either respond with acceptance or shove
We’ll either hate this charge and run
Or embrace and wear it like a glove
It’s what forms who we become
Responsible creatures, everyone
“So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. Then God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth and govern it. Reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, and all the animals that scurry along the ground.””
Genesis 1:27-28 NLT
