You call me daughter

You Call Me Daughter

By C C Keaton

You dreamt me up from eternity past

You determined which days would be my first and my last

You fashioned me with abilities as well as limitations

In wisdom and loving kindness

Using materials borrowed from previous generations

Originally, you took me from part of another’s carriage

To form a mysterious picture

Of how one is not quite whole without their counterpart in marriage

And even this is but mere shadow

A kind of cosmic, dress-rehearsal-reality show

You wrote a song deep into my heart

One that only You can tell apart

So uniquely purposed for Your good deeds

To bear fruit, follow suit, in restoration’s pursuit

Obeying all of Your commands and creeds

Once fully formed and birthed

You gave me breath of life

Endowed with inherent dignity and worth

And yes my physical parts tell a story

Not for my own but for Your Heavenly glory!

Plunged into a world that tells lies and deceives

And tickles the vain desires inside of me

Ruled by an enemy hell bent on my corruption

Into straying down a wayward path of destruction

A lamb to the slaughter

But You call me daughter!

So please keep my direction ever facing Your Kingdom

Fill me with courage, faith, hope and help me use my freedom

To love all others just as my own self

For therein lives the true wealth

And keep me humble, in daily need of Your living water

Forever grateful that You call me daughter!
