The Story of a Seed
an Easter poem
by C C Keaton
In the beginning, of we, you dreamed
Then, in perfect paradise, planted a seed
The seed had everything it could ever want or need
Light, life…
Lucious fruit on which to feed
And the gift of love called Liberty
Then to the seed you decreed
To multiply, fill the earth, create beauty, do justice and good deeds
Follow carefully all your creeds
And beware of bad fruit that to death leads
But then an enemy came to mislead
And in the garden sow destructive weeds
And so, your loving warning we did not heed
Forever separating we from Thee
Replacing blessing with cursing
Now death was fully conceived
But because the power of love must always succeed
Your promises guaranteed
And your ways supersede
You bore our weakness to redeem
By defeating darkness and death for all who believe and agreed
That Jesus is Risen!
He is risen indeed!
“But in fact, Christ has been raised from the dead. He is the first of a great harvest of all who have died. So you see, just as death came into the world through a man, now the resurrection from the dead has begun through another man. Just as everyone dies because we all belong to Adam, everyone who belongs to Christ will be given new life. But there is an order to this resurrection: Christ was raised as the first of the harvest; then all who belong to Christ will be raised when he comes back.”
1 Corinthians 15:20-23 NLT
